Lantern Of Lunar Diplomacy: Filling Guide For Beginners

how to fill lantern lunar diplomacy

The Lunar Diplomacy quest in OSRS involves a lantern that needs to be filled with oil. The lantern is used to find five symbols/seals on a ship to remove them. The lantern can be created by using an emerald lens with a bullseye lantern or a bullseye lantern (unf). If created from a bullseye lantern (unf), it will require lamp oil to be lit with a tinderbox. The Cabin Boy will give you an emerald lens and an unfinished bullseye lantern. You can then fill the unfinished Emerald Lantern with oil from the oil still at the Chemist's House in Rimmington.

Get the emerald lens and bullseye lantern (unf) from the Cabin Boy

To get the emerald lens and bullseye lantern (unf) from the Cabin Boy, you must first speak with Lokar Searunner at the westernmost dock in Rellekka. Then, head to the longhall and talk to Brundt the Chieftain to obtain a seal of passage. It is important to always carry the seal of passage with you when on Lunar Isle or related areas, or you will be teleported back to Rellekka.

Next, board the ship and speak with the Cabin Boy, who is located one level above the captain, to the south. Make sure you have two empty inventory spaces before talking to him. The Cabin Boy will confess to placing a jinx on the ship and will hand you an emerald lens and possibly an unfinished lantern.

If you receive an unfinished lantern from the Cabin Boy, you will need to bring your own bullseye lantern that can be lit, as the one given during the quest doesn't come with oil. Use the emerald lens on your own bullseye lantern to create an emerald lantern. If you accidentally use the emerald lens on the wrong lantern, you can drop it and ask the Cabin Boy for another lens.

If you don't have a bullseye lantern, you can follow these additional steps:

  • Obtain swamp tar from the barrel in 'Birds-Eye' Jack's room or the dock.
  • Head to Rimmington and use the Chemist's lamp oil still.
  • Use the swamp tar and an alembic to fuel the unfinished lantern.

Combine the emerald lens and bullseye lantern to create an emerald lantern

To create an emerald lantern, you will need an emerald lens and a bullseye lantern. You can obtain these items by playing the Lunar Diplomacy quest in OSRS. The Cabin Boy will give you the emerald lens and an unfinished bullseye lantern.

To combine the two items, place the emerald lens into the bullseye lantern. This will turn it into an unfinished emerald lantern. If you created the lantern from a bullseye lantern (unf), you will need to add lamp oil to the lantern before lighting it with a tinderbox. You can get the lamp oil by going to the Chemist's House in Rimmington and using swamp tar on the lamp oil still inside. Use the unfinished emerald lantern on the oil still to fill it with oil.

Alternatively, if you have the sapphire lantern from Tears of Guthix, you can simply swap it out for the emerald lens. This will save you time from having to make a new lantern and putting oil in it.

Get lamp oil from the ship

To get lamp oil from the ship during the Lunar Diplomacy quest, you will need to board the ship for Moonclan Island at Rellekka docks in the Fremennik region. Speak with Lokar Searunner to get on board. Once on the ship, speak with the chief, Brundt the Chieftain, who will give you the seal of passage.

Keep the seal of passage in your inventory at all times to avoid being kicked out of the Lunar Isle region. Next, speak with Captain Bentley on the main deck. Ask him to take you to Lunar Isle. He will inform you that the ship isn't going anywhere, and you will need to figure out what's going on.

Speak with 'Bird's-Eye' Jack on the lower deck and climb the stairs south of the ship to reach him. Return to the captain and inform him that the navigator is to blame for the delay. Go back to Jack and speak with him again. Return to the captain, who will now ask you to speak to other crew members to remove the jinx.

Speak with the Cabin Boy, who will give you an emerald lens and an unfinished bullseye lantern. You will need to add lamp oil to the lantern before you can light it with a tinderbox. The lamp oil can be found on the ship.

Use a tinderbox to light the emerald lantern

To light the emerald lantern in Lunar Diplomacy, you will need to add lamp oil to it. The lantern can be created by using the emerald lens with a bullseye lantern or a bullseye lantern (unf). If you use the latter, you will need to add lamp oil to it before lighting it with a tinderbox.

To get the oil, go to the Chemist's House in Rimmington. Use the swamp tar from the tar barrel by the ship on the lamp oil still inside the house. Then, use the unfinished Emerald Lantern on the oil still to fill it with oil.

Now, you can use your tinderbox to light the lantern. Note that you will need a Firemaking level of 49 to light it.

If you have a sapphire lantern from Tears of Guthix, you can save some time by simply swapping out the lenses. When you are given the emerald lens, use it on the sapphire lantern.

Use the lit lantern to find the five symbols and remove them

Now that your lantern is lit, it's time to find and remove the five symbols hidden around the ship. Think of this as a supernatural scavenger hunt. Here are the locations where you can use your lantern to reveal the symbols:

Start by heading to the eastern cannon near where the Cabin Boy hangs out. If you don't find the symbol there, try the other cannon as these pirates tend to move their cannons around. Next, make your way to the First Mate's cabin on the captain's deck and look for the wall chart on the north-western wall. Use your lantern on it and see what happens.

Now, go down to the lowest deck. First, look for the northern chest near the stairs. The eerie green glow from your emerald lantern should reveal something interesting. While you're on the lowest deck, find the support column near the cook, 'Beefy' Burns. Another symbol should show itself. Lastly, check the two stacked crates near the cook's area. Use your lantern on them to reveal the final symbol.

Once you have found and removed all five symbols, return to Captain Bentley. With the jinx broken, he can now sail you to Lunar Isle. Don't forget to keep your seal of passage with you at all times, as you will be teleported off the isle if you try to talk to any NPC without it.
